The Latest NewsFebruary, 2007: Holy cow, we haven't updated this section in a long, long time. The blog is a bit more current, so please subscribe to the blog's feed so you won't miss the latest news items, whenever they are transmitted... Site & Service ImprovementsNovember, 2005: Over the course of the past few weeks we've made a bunch of (subtle) changes to VoyagerRadio. Both the website and the podcast have seen a variety of updates and (hopefully) improvements, many of which are subtle but should enhance your experience of our Internet radio station. For example, the website has been re-coded to make it more uniform and easier to navigate; more improvements are on the way and suggestions are always welcomed. (Use the new feedback form on our Contact page!) With the release of our fifth session of Tempo of the Down, we've made our podcast more compatible with Apple's iTunes software. Now Tempo of the Down is properly displayed and downloaded using the iTunes application; simply head to the iTunes Music Store's Podcasts directory and search for 'tempo of the down' to gather our latest podcast. In addition, we're in the processing of adding our blog (which we're now referring to as our blogcast), Transmitting to Earth, to the iTunes directory. Look for it in the coming weeks! (If you use a podcatcher other than iTunes, your can begin receiving transmissions now; subscribe using our new feed.) New Audio Player Being Introduced to WebsiteOctober, 2005: A new audio player is currently being introduced to the VoyagerRadio website; you should be able to see it on the News page right now (unless you don't have Flash installed). Though using a podcatcher application is the preferred way to download our podcasts (using our feed), we understand that some visitors may want to "preview" the show before subscribing to it. Thus, the new audio player. Check it out! Tempo of the Down: Session 04 and Session 04.5 Released; Live365 Stream Replaced By Blog LinkAugust and September, 2005: Session 04 of our podcast, Tempo of the Down has been released, followed shortly after by a special Katrina edition, Session 04.5! Remember to subscribe to our podcast feed to have future sessions of Tempo of the Down automagically delivered right to your iPod. Following July's announcement, VoyagerRadio is no longer streaming audio via the Internet radio service Live365.com. VoyagerRadio is now podcasting and streaming audio directly from VoyagerRadio.com. As a result, the Radio link in the navigation menu, which directed visitors to VoyagerRadio's Live365 audio stream, has been replaced with a link to our blog, which we hope you'll "tune in" to. New Tempo Session in the Works; AMP Podcasts You May EnjoyMid-July, 2005: We're working on a new session of Tempo of the Down along with a new schedule, so that we'll be able to kick out those podcasts more regularly. Now that we're mobile, it should be easier for us to continue our work while out and about escaping the Summer heatwave we're experiencing here on our home base in Los Angeles. In the meantime, we invite you to check out some of our friends' podcasts at AMP, the Association of Music Podcasting. There, you'll find a variety of musical entertainments brought together in support of recording artists and eachother. Enjoy! Radio link (Live365.com Audio Stream) to be RemovedJuly, 2005: Alas, we're finally nearing the end of VoyagerRadio's relationship with Live365.com. Some of you have been tuning in to VoyagerRadio's Live365 audio stream for years (currently accessible by clicking our Radio link), but now that we're podcasting, the audio stream has become less relevant to our listeners' needs. Podcasting provides both streamed and downloaded audio; with podcasting, you're able to listen to VoyagerRadio both while at your computer and by using your iPod (or another portable MP3 device). We've had a wonderful run with Live365, and we've made alot of friends within the Live365 community, but we won't be paying Live365 for another year of stream hosting (unless someone wants to pay it for us.) We'll still be tuning in to some Live365 stations, though more of our time has been spent listening to podcasts lately. (By the way, Live365 has added a few podcasts to their service, by the way.) If anyone is heartbroken about this loss and wishes to help out with our Live365 hosting bill, please contact us. We'd love to keep the Live365 stream running, as it permits us to continue webcasting copyrighted music. No matter what, VoyagerRadio will continue to transmit the best downtempo we encounter out in the vast and infinite universe, so stay tuned...and if you haven't already, tune in to our latest podcast! The End of the News Page, or the Beginning?June, 2005: We've not felt compelled to update this news page in quite some time. Perhaps this is due to the lack of a simple - maybe even fun - tool that would enable us to do so. We prefer handcoding VoyagerRadio.com's pages, and heretofore have always used a tool called PageSpinner to do so. PageSpinner is quite adequate; in fact, it's quite a pleasure to use. It's our favorite tool for coding web pages, and we've even been using it to handcode my RSS files and even some text files. However, when it comes to updating the news items on our News page, it has become an arduous task that we tend to avoid. It can actually get quite confusing to code the HTML for the page; there are simply too many items to keep track of, and we get frustrated and confused coding this particular page. Because of our difficulty updating this page, we've been using the newsletter to dispense information to listeners and we've been redirecting visitors to an external blog to learn about the latest revisions and updates to VoyagerRadio. This is not ideal, however, as it requires you to leave this website in order to gather information. Today's news is good news, however, for these past few days we've begun using OPML Editor, a tool which we are using, at this very moment, to edit this news item. OPML Editor could very well be the tool we are looking for - it's got a simple interface, it's quite easy to use, and it does something PageSpinner and most other text-editing applications don't: it outlines. This is helpful for HTML coding because it displays my work as an outline; it also allows us to create outlines for your reading pleasure. For example, we can include additional points below this paragraph, and it is your choice as to whether you wish to expand and read them. We'll provide you with examples in the near future. New Music Showcase Introduced; Lo-Fi Stream DroppedSeptember, 2004: We have a new show, Tempo of the Down, which showcases the downtempo music and artists we play on VoyagerRadio. The show is currently broadcasting at 6pm Pacific every night and usually lasts for about 80 minutes. A view of Tempo of the Down playlists will always be available in the Artists section of our website, so keep that page bookmarked so you'll have easy access to the playlist while you're listening to the show. We are currently broadcasting the 3rd session of the show; newsletter subscribers receive notification whenever we introduce a new session. Subscribe to our free newsletter by emailing newsletter@voyagerradio.com and you'll receive valuable VoyagerRadio announcements and opportunities to win free stuff! (We're currently giving away free t-shirts.) Remember to send us the email address you wish to subscribe. As portended, the Lo-Fi VoyagerRadio stream has been dropped. Sad news indeed, since the stream was our original and had been operating for many years. Unfortunately, we can longer afford to keep the stream running (unless we get an 11th-hour donation via PayPal or something!). For a few weeks, until the stream is cancelled by our hosting provider Live365, the stream will be used to rebroadcast Tempo of the Down shows. Website Redesign and New Internet Radio PlayerJune, 2004: We have redesigned VoyagerRadio.com, lightening up the view and streamlining navigation of the site. The former version will henceforth be referred to as the Dark Age. The new site replaces an irrelevant Links page with an Artists page showcasing the recording artists in our playlist, along with their recording labels. We also plan to incorporate our blog and our new forum into the website, but for the time being these are externally hosted and accessible via the links you'll find at the bottom of any page. We will probably also be phasing out the Lo-Fi audio stream over the next few months. It seems to be rarely used, and unless we receive an overwhelming response in favor of keeping it (and perhaps contributions to do so), we just can't afford to keep it running. As mentioned, we have a new forum for our listeners, run through LAUNCHGroups and therefore easy to subscribe to (or unsubscribe from). The forum is free, of course. We hope everyone will join so we can build the coolest community of downtempo listeners in the universe - which, of course, depends on you participating. There will be more to come, little by little, and we're always open to suggestions from our listeners. Depending on our time and resources, we may or may not implement your suggestions, but we will always take them into consideration. VoyagerRadio Wins Best New Station AwardMay, 2004: VoyagerRadio has won the Best New Station award in the 2004 Best of Live365 Awards! The award was presented during the Live365 Broadcaster Summit held in San Francisco, California April 30 thru May 1.
