Introducing VoyagerRadio Hi-Fi

January 1, 2004: Happy New Year, everybody! After extensive testing, the broadband mp3PRO stream has now been officially launched. Look for the new Launch links in the navigation menu at the top of every page of the website--a Launch Hi-Fi link is now available for broadband Internet listeners and a Launch Lo-Fi link remains for dialup Internet users. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Broadband VoyagerRadio To Be Released New Year's Day

December 23, 2003: After testing a broadband version of VoyagerRadio for the past month, I am pleased to announce that the new stream will be officially released on New Year's Day! The link to the new stream is not absolutely certain yet, so check back here or subscribe to my free newsletter to receive an advance warning about the new webcast's stream location. (It's possible that the current lo-fi stream will become the new hi-fi stream. If this is the case, the current lo-fi stream will relocate to the current location of the hi-fi hi-fi test stream. I'm not trying to make this confusing--the stream locations depend on the outcome of a billing issue I'm waiting for my streaming provider to resolve.)

So keep your eye on this page, or better yet, watch your email inbox for an announcement if you're subscribed to the VoyagerRadio Newsletter.

VoyagerRadio Testing Broadband Webcast

November 23, 2003: Great news! I'm currently testing a broadband version of VoyagerRadio! The new audio stream will be officially released within the next few weeks. The current dialup version of VoyagerRadio will still be available, so if you're listening via a 56k modem, nothing will change--dialup listeners will still be listening to the same audio stream. A new stream will be available for broadband listeners.

I believe this is the best news I've had to report since the advent of this Internet radio station. I've always wanted to introduce a broadband version of VoyagerRadio, and now I finally have the opportunity to do so. Thank you to everyone who answered my poll over the past two months--your feedback has encouraged me to introduce a broadband version of VoyagerRadio. Now please consider subscribing to the VoyagerRadio Newsletter to receive an official notification of broadband VoyagerRadio's release. The newsletter is free and your privacy will be respected.

Poll: Dialup or Broadband?

September 15, 2003: Okay, it's time to ask the annual question: How do you listen to VoyagerRadio? Are you on dialup, or broadband? I asked this question last year and a few VoyagerRadio listeners let me know they were tuned in via dialup, so I kept the station available for 56k modem listeners. (I bumped up the bitrate a bit, from 24kbps to 32kbps, to enhance the sound quality while keeping the webcast accessible to dialup listeners.)

It's time to poll again, since I am considering changing the webcast to a higher quality stream, accessible only by broadband listeners.

Let me know by commenting below (click the "Comment" link) or by emailing me your response. I have no idea which way I'm going to go yet, so tell me whether you're using dialup or broadband so I can prepare the webcast appropriately. I believe that you deserve to hear VoyagerRadio at the best possible quality available for your Internet connection.

VoyagerRadio Testing mp3PRO Format

September 10, 2003: I'm in the process of testing the mp3PRO audio format. If all goes well, VoyagerRadio will soon have better sound for those of you listening via software or hardware that is able to play mp3PRO music. Don't worry if you don't have the appropriate player, though--you'll still be able to listen to the webcast even if your hardware or software isn't mp3PRO-compatible. (More on this later.) If you'd like to learn more about mp3PRO, please visit mp3PROzone or mp3PRO.com.

In the meantime, you may experience a shorter VoyagerRadio playlist as I make space on my Live365 server for the new mp3PRO files. This is only temporary and VoyagerRadio will return to a longer playlist once I am done testing the new audio format. So stay tuned, and get ready for a whole new VoyagerRadio listening experience!

VoyagerRadio Needs You

August 18, 2003: What do you think? I'd like to know what you like or dislike about VoyagerRadio: what music strikes your fancy, what doesn't, what you'd like to hear more of, what you wouldn't mind hearing less of, what features you like/dislike about the VoyagerRadio website, what features you'd like to see added to the website (or removed from the site), etc. Submit your suggestions to Feedback@VoyagerRadio.com and I'll take all of your feedback into serious consideration. Your participation makes VoyagerRadio your Internet radio station!

Feedback System Added To VoyagerRadio Blog

July 23, 2003: A feedback system was recently added to the VoyagerRadio blog. This enables all readers of the blog to participate in the conversation, with the option to do so anonymously. The system works as follows: visitors are able to post comments to any post made on the blog via a simple feedback form. Other visitors are able to post their own feedback on these comments via the same form, and so on, and so forth.

The advantage of this type of feedback system is its simplicity; you don't need to subscribe to anything to use it, and you don't have to open up your email program to make comments about stuff you read on the blog. Simply click a link; a window will pop up in which you can fill with your comments--then click the Save button and your feedback is posted to the VoyagerRadio blog! Of course, you may still email private comments to VRblog@VoyagerRadio.com (or Feedback@VoyagerRadio.com).

The VoyagerRadio Blog: Something New All The Time

June 23, 2003: Due to major life changes, the curator of VoyagerRadio has had to adapt new methods of keeping VoyagerRadio content current. The first priority has always been the webcast, followed by the website. This is why the content of VoyagerRadio.com may sometimes seems outdated--no new photos, not alot of news, and the rank and listener statistics are only updated every few days. So why bother visiting VoyagerRadio.com every day, or even every week, when you can tune in to the VoyagerRadio webcast via your audio player?

Here's the answer. Most VoyagerRadio listeners don't realize that Harold (the man behind the curtain, so to speak) has a blog which is updated rather frequently. A blog is relatively easy to maintain--that's the nature of a blog--and therefore it's consistently updated. So next time you're wondering whether to visit VoyagerRadio to see if there's anything new, remember to click the Blog link on the side of any page on VoyagerRadio.com to visit the VoyagerRadio blog, Making Contact (name since changed to Transmitting To Earth), for an interesting take on all things related to Internet radio! That means discussion of music, insight into the development of VoyagerRadio, and comments on the general state of Internet radio. (And if you really want to get into discussion about Internet radio issues, subscribe to the Internet Radio Lovers discussion group.)
