Welcome to 'Transmitting to Earth'. I'm Charssun and I'll be your host. This blog and podcast is a byproduct of VoyagerRadio.com and is intended to provide the most timely information about this Internet radio station. It is also intended to be a fun and accessible electronic journal with commentary focusing on Internet radio, podcasting and webcasting issues and technologies, music, and some of my other interests. I also offer personal perspective about being an Internet radio broadcaster (and podcaster).

Ever buy a dud on eBay? Just bought this minidisc recorder so that I could start recording my own shows for inclusion on VoyagerRadio. You guessed it--it doesn't work. I've been wanting a minidisc recorder for a long time; I've got big plans. Joe Frank-type stuff. Or This American Life and Your Radio Nightlight-type of shows, but with my own perspective, of course. Looks like the audience is going to have to wait awhile longer.
This is the second time I've purchased faulty electronics via eBay. Both times I resorted to eBay due to lack of funding. I love eBay, but buying electronics seems disastrous. Apple released a new Anyway, enjoy the service, if you've got the goods! Is this the ugliest weblog you've ever seen? Please let me know. It's currently undergoing a transformation, it's got a long way to go, and I'm open to suggestions. One concern I have is: does it take too long to load? As you can see, it's got a few images and the playlist (above), which I may have to remove. A few more images have now been added to VoyagerRadio | Photography. I'm still not certain of what is the overall purpose of this section of the VoyagerRadio website, but I envision an image gallery that evokes the same type of dreamy landscape produced by the music played on VoyagerRadio. Of course, it has quite a ways to go, and I've still alot to learn about working with images. My efforts to promote VoyagerRadio have led me to DotMac.Info, where I have posted a profile and description of various sections of the VoyagerRadio website. This is an example of the type of marketing you resort to when you have a zero-dollar budget.
It's a jungle out there, and trying to promote your Internet radio station on a shoestring budget--not, wait, let's make that a shoestring-less budget--is challenging, often fun, and sometimes downright difficult. Take now, for instance. I've heard snippets of information about this RSS thing for some time now, and I've finally decided to tackle it. (RSS, in a nutshell, is a web technology that allows you to syndicate your news. For example, every post you make in a blog, like the post you're reading now.) So I'm plunging through the RSS jungle now, hacking away at the tangled vines of information about how to put it to use for my own needs. I've added a new button with a link to my "feed" on this blog, but I still don't know what to do with it. (What has XML to do with RSS? I don't know--I'm still confused about it. Maybe they're not the same thing.) Maybe you know what I should do with my feed. Know any good syndicators? Contact me.Slashdot | Apple Plans to Purchase Universal Music
Now if this story is true, it could either spell the final death bell for Apple Computer Co.--should the music industry collapse--or the beginning of a long a beautiful future as the leaders of the new digital music distribution era. Time will only tell... The above link references an LA Times article which requires free registration to read. For those of you who don't wish to register with the LATimes.com site, I'll tell you that the article reports a new service which Apple is apparently about to unveil...a service which may help to resolve the digital music distribution problem. Apparently, the service, in keeping in line with Apple's reputation for simplicity, will provide consumers with a 1-click method of obtaining music. Will it work? Subscribe to the Internet Radio Lovers discussion group on Yahoo Groups to discuss this and other issues involving Internet radio and digital music distribution. Welcome to Making Contact, the VoyagerRadio blog. If this is your first time here, I encourage you to read the past few posts, and to visit VoyagerRadio.com, the website this blog accompanies.
VoyagerRadio is an Internet radio station webcasting a variety of downtempo: chillout electronica by such artists as Thievery Corp., Amon Tobin, The Orb, Tosca, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and even some of Underworld's more mellow songs, as well as many other great artists. So tune in and enjoy the sounds of VoyagerRadio, transmitting downtempo electronica to Earth. Well, the site look is evolving (devolving?), as you can see. Besides this blog, a narrative blog called something that happened, and various other projects, I also moderate a discussion forum: Please consider subscribing to engage in a dialogue about all things having to do with Internet radio! |
